Outdoor Adventures June 2009

Bowfishing The Illinois River:

This year I was able to plan it right; unfortunately, we couldnt find the flying (asian) carp (bigheads and silvers.) We had such a great turnout and everyone endured the conditions of the trip. Boy, I wish the carp were running. We still had fun, but we called it quits, and then decided to celebrate at a local restaurant. Till next year. A special thanks to Sully for letting us use his 24 foot monster boat and to my bro, Tomahawk. You were a great host.

Opportunistic Herping:

May and June have been stellar months. Last month I stumbled across a northern brown snake and my daughter caught a grey tree frog. June has been a turtle explosion. I have rescued numerous turtles off the road. In the video, you see a painted turtle, musk turtle, and a couple of snapping turtles. I rescued a blandings turtle and a map turtle as well. Unfortunately, I did not get any video of the later two.

Fly Fishing For Bass and Bluegill:

Dice wanted to learn how to fly fish. He was a little hesitant because he thought it was going to be difficult. But, as he soon found out under Bravo Zulus tutelage, fly fishing is very easy and fun. Personally, it is the best way to fish for summer panfish. We consistently outfish the bait fisherman this time of year. Now Dice is hooked. I have neglected my bowfishing for too long now.

Local Bowfishing:

Despite Dices new found obsession with fly fishing, I was able to get out for a solo bowfishing trip. I shot a citation red horse and bowfin. The bowfin was a solid 9 pounds. GREAT DAY on the water.

Portabote:

I helped restock my dads pond using the portabote. We hit an old lake I use to fish as a kid. Launching the portabote was easy. Instead of walking the boat a 1/4 mile to the launch (no car or boat ramp access), we used a wheel barrel to lug the equipment to the shoreline. Forget about spending 300 bucks for a portadolly. That is just pure REDONKULOUS!!! The wheel barrel worked just fine.

It was a two day stocking, and my dad got some nice catfish, bluegill, and bass in his pond. We are done restocking now for a few years.

Native Aquarium:
I gave you a sneak peak of my new fish. I obtained 2 baby warmouth, 2 baby green sunfish, and 1 baby bluegill. I am doing some minor changes to my aquarium. I am sure there will be a video to follow, but for now, I am in the process of raising these ever-so-small fish.

BAP:

Bitter Angst Productions is considering a quarterly action-adventure video instead of a monthly video. The monthly videos are becoming redundant in content. I still think it would be nice to do action-adventure videos representing each season. I will still make other videos on an as needed basis.
